Chapter 170, Article V, of the Chesterfield Township Municipal Code holds property owners responsible for the maintenance of sidewalks and curbs abutting their properties. Property owners shall not permit sidewalks or curbs to fall into a state of disrepair, contain leaves or other debris constituting a trip hazard or otherwise to become unfit or unsafe to walk upon. Such obligation exists notwithstanding the cause or reason that the sidewalk or curb became in need of repair, including damage caused by trees or tree roots.
If you see or are aware of unsafe conditions involving sidewalks or curbs within the Township you are encouraged to report them to us. Once we are made aware we will notify the property owner of the existence of the hazard and their responsibility to address it. In addition to local penalties as provided by ordinance, property owners may be civilly liable for injuries or damage resulting from their failure to act.
The link below will take you to our “REPORT A CONCERN” form that you can use to notify the Township of any sidewalk or curb hazards in need of repair.
PLEASE NOTE- While filling out the “REPORT A CONCERN” form and providing “CONCERN DETAILS” be sure to select “Sidewalk” in the “Type” drop-down menu. That will ensure that your complaint is forwarded to our Code Enforcement Officer once you submit it.
